Application Deadlines for Türkiye's Private Universities: The 2026–27 Timeline

Ask five universities in Türkiye for "the application deadline" and you will get five different answers — and all of them will be softer than the word "deadline" suggests. That flexibility is genuinely good news for students coming from Iran's rigid konkur calendar, but it hides a trap: because there is rarely a hard date, it always feels safe to wait. Here is how the timing actually works, and a month-by-month plan that keeps every step unhurried.

"Deadline" works differently at private universities

Türkiye's private (foundation) universities — the group HOMA STUDY partners with — run rolling admissions for international students: you apply with your school documents, the university evaluates your file on its own schedule, and admission continues until the program's international quota is full. Most of our partner universities admit on the strength of your high-school record, without a separate national entrance exam; selective programs such as Medicine and Dentistry layer their own requirements on top. There is usually no fixed "closing date" published a year ahead — the real closing event is quota exhaustion, and it arrives quietly.

This is not theoretical. Two intakes a year

The Fall intake is the main event: every program that admits international students admits for September. The Spring intake is a genuine second door — useful if your diploma, military-exemption timing, or a late decision pushed you past the Fall window — but not every program opens in February, so treat it as a fallback to verify per program, not a guarantee. Why applying early genuinely matters

Four concrete mechanisms, no urgency theater:

1. Quotas fill. The only deadline that cannot be negotiated. Early applicants choose among all open programs; late applicants choose among what is left.
2. Founding discounts and scholarship tiers move. Universities adjust tuition promotions between cycles, and a discount available at the start of a cycle is not always available at the end. Current net prices are on pricing.
3. Dormitories allocate before term. University and private dorm places are finite and assigned as confirmed students apply — the calm path is applying for housing right after your tuition deposit. Details in the dormitory guide.
4. Paperwork breathes. Passport renewal, translations, and legalization each take days to weeks. Compressing them into August is possible; it is just miserable, and avoidably so.

Documents: the quiet time-eater

The application file itself is light — passport scan, high-school diploma and transcript (or expected-graduation letter), a photo, sometimes an English test or a diploma-grade minimum. What consumes calendar time is everything around it:

• Passport. Türkiye requires validity at least 60 days beyond your stay, and your future residence permit is issued 60 days shorter than the passport's remaining validity — so a passport near expiry shortens your permit. If yours has under two years left, renew it first and let every later document carry the new number.
• Translations and legalization. Iran is not a contracting party to the Hague Apostille Convention (HCCH status table (opens in a new tab)), so Iranian civil and academic documents follow the consular attestation route — official translation plus certification by Iranian authorities and the Turkish mission — which takes longer than an apostille stamp. Start the chain as soon as your document set is final, and budget weeks, not days.
• Diploma equivalence (denklik). Türkiye asks undergraduate enrollees to complete a high-school equivalence step; current practice runs through Türkiye's education authorities — the education office at its missions, or provincial directorates after arrival. Universities request it around final registration, and the exact sequencing varies by case, so this is one of the steps we walk you through rather than a form to fear.
• Proof of means. If your case runs through a consular student visa (see when that applies), the Turkish Embassy in Tehran recommends filing at least one month before travel.

Türkiye Bursları: one window, once a year

The government scholarship track runs on a fixed national calendar, completely separate from private-university admissions. The 2026 round accepted applications 10 January – 20 February 2026, in a single annual period, for associate through PhD levels; evaluation followed in March–April, interviews April–June, and final results are announced around August (official announcement (opens in a new tab); calendar (opens in a new tab)). Two planning implications:

• If you are reading this in autumn and want a funded September 2027 start, the January–February 2027 window is your one shot that cycle — put it in your calendar now and verify dates on the official calendar when they publish.
• The scholarship places you at state universities on its own terms. Most students we advise pursue both tracks in parallel through the winter — a Bursları application and one or two private-partner applications — so that an August scholarship result never leaves them without a September seat.

Month by month: working back from a September start

The version below assumes a September 2027 target; shift everything forward a year for 2028. Each row is a working rhythm, not a rule — your universities set the binding dates, and we confirm them live during consultation.

Spring-start variant: compress the same sequence into autumn — shortlist in August–September, apply September–October, deposit and dormitory by November–December, travel and enrollment in late January for a February term. The Bursları window does not align with a Spring start; that track is September-only in practice.
