What a Full Degree in Turkey Actually Costs: Tuition + Living, Totaled

Annual tuition and monthly living costs added up across the whole program length — one lower-cost bachelor's example, one medicine example — so you have a real number before deciding.

Figures last verified:

In short: To estimate the real cost of a degree in Turkey, multiply both annual tuition and monthly living costs by the number of years the program takes, then add them together — annual tuition alone understates it. For a lower-cost four-year bachelor's (fields like management or social sciences, roughly $3,000–$10,000/year in tuition) plus ordinary living costs, the whole-program total usually lands in the $29,000–$76,000 range. For six-year medicine at our partner universities, tuition plus living can reach $100,000 to close to $250,000. Homa Study charges nothing for this budgeting help or for the offer letter itself; tuition is paid directly to the university.

The question most families ask first — "what's the annual tuition?" — is not actually the number that matters for planning. What matters is the whole-program total: tuition plus living costs, each multiplied by however many years the degree actually takes. This post walks through that sum with real figures.

The two line items you need to add

A degree's total cost is built from two variables that behave differently:

Line itemWhat it coversAnnual range
TuitionPaid directly to the universityRoughly $1,000 to $90,000, depending on program and level
Living costsRent, food, local transport, internetRoughly $4,200–$9,000/year (based on $350–750/month)

Tuition depends on program and university; living costs depend mostly on city and housing type (dorm or apartment). Full tuition detail is in Turkish private university tuition costs, and the full living-cost breakdown is in the living-cost guide — both are the source for the calculations below.

Why there is no single "cost of studying in Turkey" figure

Tuition among our partner universities spans a wide range because different programs at the same university can carry very different tuition — the floor is usually diploma or humanities programs, and the ceiling belongs to a limited number of high-cost programs, not typical bachelor's tuition. That is why the right starting point is not an average, but two concrete worked examples.

Example one: a four-year bachelor's in the ordinary range

A bachelor's degree in the Turkish system runs four years. If your program falls in the ordinary range for fields like management or social sciences (roughly $3,000–$10,000/year in tuition), the math looks like this:

Annual× 4 years
Tuition (management/social sciences)$3,000–$10,000$12,000–$40,000
Living costs$4,200–$9,000$16,800–$36,000
Whole-program total$28,800–$76,000

The range looks wide because both the exact program's tuition and the city you study in shift the final number; you can check your own figure on the tuition page by filtering for a specific program and university.

Example two: six-year medicine

Medicine runs six years at every university in Turkey and North Cyprus. Annual tuition among our partner universities ranges from roughly $13,500 at mid-tier Istanbul and Ankara universities up to $32,400 at Acıbadem University in Istanbul. The six-year total:

Annual× 6 years
Tuition (mid-tier to Acıbadem)$13,500–$32,400$81,000–$194,400
Living costs$4,200–$9,000$25,200–$54,000
Whole-program total$106,200–$248,400

The full six-year structure, program-by-program tuition, and the degree-recognition question are covered in our guide to studying medicine in Turkey.

What this calculation leaves out

This total covers only tuition and monthly living costs. A few other costs exist that we do not put a fixed figure on here, because they depend on your issuing country, the day's exchange rate, and your own circumstances:

  • Student visa, issued by the Turkish consulate — process covered in our student visa guide.
  • Residence permit, obtained after arrival in Turkey — see our residence permit guide.
  • Mandatory health insurance for international students.
  • Flights and other one-time relocation costs.

If you qualify for a university scholarship or tuition discount, the tuition side of this calculation drops and the total falls with it — scholarship terms are covered in our scholarship guide.

How this connects to our free service

None of the figures above are paid to Homa Study. Helping you budget, reviewing your file, choosing a university and program, and obtaining offer letters from three different universities is free for the student — the full model is explained in a free offer letter from three Turkish universities. Holding three offers at once means you can run this same total-cost calculation across several real options side by side before committing to one.

Frequently asked questions

Does getting help estimating my total cost cost anything?

No. Helping you budget, reviewing your file, choosing a university and program, and following through to an offer letter is completely free for the student. You pay tuition directly into the university's own official account, and no part of it passes through us. We are paid a referral fee by the partner university after a referred student registers.

Why is a total-cost calculation so different from just looking at annual tuition?

Because living costs also need to be multiplied by the same number of years and added in, not just tuition. A program with lower annual tuition but a longer duration can end up costing close to a shorter but more expensive one. This post is built around exactly that sum, not the annual figure alone.

What does this estimate leave out?

This calculation covers only tuition and monthly living costs (rent, food, local transport). Student visa fees, the residence permit, mandatory health insurance and flights are separate, and because their exact amount depends on your issuing country, the exchange rate on the day, and your own circumstances, we do not put a fixed figure on them here — each is covered in its own guide.

If I qualify for a scholarship or a tuition discount, how does this change?

The tuition side of the calculation goes down, and the total falls with it. Scholarships and tuition discounts vary by university and are assessed case by case rather than set in advance; we review your file and tell you what applies to you rather than promising a figure before that review.

Where do these figures come from?

Tuition comes from the published pricing of our partner universities, and the monthly living-cost range comes from this site's own living-cost guide, which is itself sourced to the official Study in Türkiye portal. You can check every figure again on its own reference page — here we simply add them up across a full program length.
